08/15 Back to school

All over the Lowcountry, students are starting to head back to school. Margo is sending her oldest off to Kindergarten.

I’ve packed, unpacked and repacked his book bag about 7 times already, all of his supplies have been bought and labeled, his uniform is pressed and ready, he has the perfect hair cut and new pair of shoes, we’ve been to open-house and he says he’s ready and excited to go.

Head off to the Charleston First Day Festival August 17 at Liberty Square from 1-4 PM for a day of fun before the kids head off to school.

Nate, a little beyond that stage of his education, is preparing for his return to school by stocking up the pantry to avoid junk food and the fast food lines.

So this time, we plan to spend the entire week before school starts cooking, canning and freezing enough quickly-preparable meals to last the whole semester. Home-made frozen dinners and canned veggies.

It’s move-in weekend at CofC so expect the area to be a little bit chaotic this weekend if you’re wandering around.

08/14 Gone to the dogs

The last couple of weeks or so have been pretty hot, and what better way to enjoy it than a trip out to the beach with the dogs

The guys at Blue Ion share a tribute to Buster.

While away in class, he often found his way out of the backyard and led our other roommate’s dog on an adventure. On one such occasion, I came home to hear a voice mail from some girl I didn’t even know, saying that she saw: “A little Jack Russell and a big Alaskan Husky cruising thru the neighborhood” and that “it looked like they were headed in the direction of the park.”

Pimping a new project I started, I finally kicked off my Lowcountry Dog Park tour project with visits to two city run dog parks: Hampton Park dog park and Ackerman dog park.

It’s hot out there, and dogs can be especially prone to heat related problems so be careful out there when you’re out and about with your four-legged buddy.

Oh, by the way, Joan has tickets to Bruce Springstein that she’s auctioning off.
