03/13 Green Friday

I wanted to open as we’ve done the past two days with an update on Forrester, Keep the thoughts and prayers coming Forrester’s way, as he’s had a bit of a rough day, though thankfully things are looking up this afternoon.

We’re getting awful close to St. Patrick’s Day, which is being celebrated tomorrow versus the 17th, which lands on a Tuesday this year. Sense Charleston’s put together a pretty good roundup of what’s happening — and don’t forget to check into TheDigitel’s roundup too. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that spring-almost-summer-like weather to stick around for the weekend, as a few chilly gray days are forecast.

Speaking of weather, a new weather station’s sprung up in Mt. Pleasant thanks to an 8th-grade science class at Christ Our King/Stella Maris Catholic School, and Rob Fowler was there to launch it.

Meanwhile, many congratulations to Blue Ion for securing new space on some pretty prime real estate — doesn’t get much more fitting for a creative company than to be on top of an Apple Store, after all. Check out Blue Ion’s chronicles of their move, which they lovingly call the “301″ blog — and if you can spot why they call it “301,” you obviously must be a Web developer. :)

Cheryl Smithem talks about my favorite thing about Twitter — how it can humanize corporations.

Get ready for the debut of the Lowcountry Highrollers, Charleston’s first roller derby team, on March 22nd. The self-described “cat fight on wheels” should be a lot of fun to watch!

Save the date: Kulture Klash 4 is on for April 18th.

George tells us to embrace the (March) madness.

Jesse shows us how to spend less and eat healthier at the same time. And speaking of health, Eugene’s started training for the iFiveK. (As for my own training, I invoke the Fifth.)

Too much fun? You can never have too much fun. :)

Enjoy your weekend, folks, and stay safe out there if you’re celebrating St. Patrick’s!

Jared Smith, who blogs at jaredwsmith.com and tells the weather at charlestonwx.com, had a tough time finding anything witty to put in his byline this week.

03/06 Friday, I’m in love (with this weather, that is)

Ahh, Charleston. The one place where you can start the week with snow and end it 15 degrees above normal. I don’t think the Food and Wine Festival could have timed it any better. Erica Jackson at the City Paper has the scoop on F&W’s Opening Night, and Stephanie Barma (also from CCP) has some shots from today’s events.

I don’t know about you, but weather like this makes me want to roll down the window and jam a bit. Looking for some new music to rock out to? Jason Bradford shares some selections from his Twitter friends.

More and more local media are signing up for Twitter — this week, the crew from 2 Girls and a Guy in the Morning on 95SX, Brooke, Tanya, and Mike, all signed up and have started tweeting (with the assistance of Lyn Mettler, who made an appearance on the show on Tuesday). If you’re still skeptical about Twitter or just want to know more about it, give TheDigitel’s 12th DigiCast a listen; in the show, TheDigitel’s Ken and Geoff host a Skype-enabled roundtable discussion all about Twitter featuring Lyn, Janet Edens Conover, and yours truly.

Food and Twitter aren’t all we talk about. Chelle reflects on honoring the memories of her father and sister:

As the years pass on, I’ve gotten to know my mother beyond just a parent and as a person. I’ll never know Dad or Suzie like I’ve gotten to know her. In short, it matters, and sometimes there’s no wording it as to why it does, other than to simply say, it matters. That’s just the fact of it.

I went there, knowing neither of them are truly there. That it’s ceremonial and that deep down, it’s really not going to do anything for me that most would think. And that was ok with me. It’s something I wanted to do, for reasons that didn’t exactly jump out and me and I decided I was going to do it.

Jay Lowry shares the unwritten rules of firefighting.

David Farrow on the bill working its way through the SC Legislature that would require photo ID when voting:

Why is this so tough? Whose rights are being trampled?
Give me one legitimate reason why one should not have to show a picture ID when one votes. By “legitimate reason” I mean one not colored by emotion, one persuaded by common sense.
Doesn’t one have to present a picture ID to buy beer or cigarettes? When you cash a check, don’t you have to present two forms of identification, one of them state issued?

And finally, Tartelette shares a sweet treat to end the work week.

Don’t forget to spring forward this weekend — yes, we lose an hour of sleep, but I’ll take the adjustment of the daylight. Also, logo designers, don’t forget about our t-shirt design contest!

Something I missed? Feel free to stick it in comments.
