02/17 A Tuesday a-Twitter

Tuesday evening was abuzz with the news that News 2 has encouraged most of their staff to use Twitter. Jared W. Smith appeared on the 6pm broadcast and assembled a reference for those just joining the medium.

The Connection Maven, Cheryl Smithem, mentions tomorrow’s Web 2.0 Seminar and notes an increase of local users.

Patrick Properties is ready for Pecha Kucha on February 25.

Speaking of events, what were you doing on Valentine’s Day? If you were lucky, you joined fellow bloggers, tweeters, and BBQ lovers for a meat-up. Pictured below: Chrys, Jared, Ian, Patrick, Don, Luke, Heather, Dan, Heidi, Kathy, Mark, Janet, Aidan, Vera. I missed a spouse and a didn’t get all of the bloglings.

If you have photos on Flickr from blogger and tweeter meetups, don’t forget to tag them.

Speaking of meet ups, I’m looking to see if anyone else is interested in joining Dan Tennant and I running the i5k on April 16th. We can enter with a team of six and the fee is $25 per person. I’m nowhere near as fast as Dan T, so we can bring up the rear of the group and hope there are still libations left over.

Charleston Moves is disappointed with SCDOT’s response to pedestrian and cyclist needs with the upcoming Ben Sawyer Bridge replacement:

When I explained that we were speaking only about painting lanes on the road, he stood firm, saying he couldn’t be sure that there was sufficient width for bicycle/pedestrian lanes.

Greg Hambrick expects stimulus job creation to be underwhelming locally:

South Carolina’s high unemployment rate means that it will see less of an impact from the jobs created under the stimulus bill than other states. It seems an equitable distribution of the stimulus aid won out over sending more aid to states hardest hit by the economic crisis (That’s not to say that South Carolina would have been smart enough to take the money anyway).

SCIway.net appreciates North Charleston’s efforts toward greener buildings and practices.

Meanwhile Earl wonders about the resignation of the SC Ports Authority Director.

Andra wonders, “Is the Economic Freefall Slowing Down?

Closing thought from Ian:

I think that sometimes the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve ever had.

01/25 Sunday’s New Additions

Ragamuffin Design
A creative, domestic weblog

Positus Points isn’t new, but has made the move to WordPress.

Dan Tennant and I are both be headed out of town this week. (He’s in Colorado and I’m heading to Florida). Eugene has taken the initiative and begun planning a meet up for Thursday the 29th.

If you have any interest in contributing a round up, now would be a great time. We have openings for Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Send me an email and I’ll get you set up. Don’t be shy, it’s a great way to read great content and get to know those in your community.

01/13 Tuesday’s Blog Overload

Sometimes there are an overwhelming amount of posts to choose from. It’s manageable when there is a common thread, such as a news event tying them together. Today’s collection is all over the map.

Brian Wilder looks at race and the President-Elect:

All considerations aside, there is nothing conditional at all about his ethnicity. Technically, one could use the age-tested “One Drop” rule…if it was 1895 and America was still locked in the crushing grip of the Jim Crow laws.

Fortunately, for me especially, this is not 1895, and the idea of “claiming” a candidate because their African father just so happened to have relations with a white woman and conceive demonstrates the kind of ignorance that is usually reserved for those who don those fashionable white robes with the matching hoods.

Alison has gone back to work and it’s bittersweet:

As I told Maybelle this morning, “This is day one of work-family balance.” I am exhausted (Biffle observes that this is probably due to all the panicking last night and this morning) and feeling, as I predicted, very torn.

I am so happy to be back at work. It felt great to be in the classroom again today–to feel that energy, that confidence, the possibilities for interesting conversations crackling in the air around me. And at the same time I worried about Maybelle.

Eugene has pictures from Sunday night’s meet up at Amazon Grill, while JanetLee was unimpressed with Goose Creek. (Part of the problem may be that Amazon is near the Weapons Station. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a military base in the nice part of town.)

File this one under Giant Can of Worms: “Bridge Cyclist and Walkers Make Dangerous Combo.”

Next up Foodie Pr0n, don’t worry it’s safe for work. Well, as long as your keyboard can handles a little drool: Beignets, buttermilk cornbread, lemon poppy seed cake with Meyer lemon mousse, chocolate chai latte cookies and Italian wedding cake, oh my!

The Murray Blog suggests we don’t reach for calorie laden drinks to wash down the above.

However, Untamed Beer would probably suggest we reach for anything by the award winning Coast Brewery.

Moving right along to the uncategorized selections, Lou has a  quick Windows 7 Installation review.

Uncle Zoloft has discovered FaceCrack.

If you live along the Hwy 17 Corridor north of Charleston National, you may be interested in an upcoming series of meetings on planning and development.

Parting look, Cottage Industrialist looks back at her inspiration:

I can remember sitting up on a high stool at a work table peering over a lightbox as one of my dad’s employees laid out a job. She worked with deft precision using only an exacto blade and rubber cement. She wore striped socks with toes in them, and she had kinky blonde hair.

I can remember rummaging through cases of type in the back room that was my dad’s office. Mismatched letters and odd bits of leaded ephemera. How I wish I could get my hands on those now!

01/08 Meet Up 1/11 Amazon Grill

It seems there is a Chargers’ game conflicting with a meetup next Sunday. To accomodate the fans we are changing to the date to THIS Sunday January 11, at 6:30pm.

We’ll be meeting at Amazon Grill 1316 Red Bank Road.

There are two all you can eat options. The first is the standard buffet with Brazillian dishes, the second adds a grilled option. Throughout the evening servers bring cuts of grilled beef and pork on skewers to carve at the table. They continue to do so until you beg for mercy.

Leave a comment or send an email if you’d like to join us.
