09/18 Friday On My Mind

So sang The Easybeats. Here’s hoping you’ve had a great week, and here’s what’s happened in the last twenty four hours or so, in the lowcountry blogosphere.

Now PBR isn’t something I’d go out of my way to drink. My take on beer is if I can’t afford something I enjoy, I’ll go without, but apparently, after many years of decline PBR makes a comeback for that very reason. It’s cool to drink something that fewer people do. Read on…

Now I’ve gotten you hankering after a beer or other favorite cold drink, sit back and sup it and read about a big win for the huge Coral reefs off the Atlantic Coast at Think South

Quenched your thirst yet? Perhaps you’re hungry now? You will be after checking out Sausage Pinwheels at Home-Ec101!

Are you a Star Wars fan? If so, you might care to check out the details on this concert coming to the Coliseum. Head over to Blue Ion to read more. Meanwhile Imabug is looking for Star Trek at Imablog

Racism or just Plain Rudeness? Patrick’s Place could help you decide.

Concerned about what to tell your kids about H1N1? Read what Carolyn Murray has to say about it at The Murray Blog

On a lighter note, if you’re looking for some nightlife on Saturday Shine Restaurant might be the place hang out at. Read more at Upper King Charleston

Last but not least, I will leave you with some Ecstasy.  The legal kind. From Mike over at Shadow of Diogenes.

May your weekend be everything you want it to be.  See you again tomorrow.

Find me all over the place online, but particularly, at The Eye

09/17 Another Thursday ~ another day gone ~

Hello again, it was just yesterday that I was in here….but that was then, this is now… :)

Our very own ex-pat David Moulton – “Taking the Piss” – quite enjoyable reading and I can totally relate! :)

Dark Sky Magazine – Thursday Flurry of Words – is always a great reading.

Firefighter Hourly – Columbia Need Public Support – we need to support all the firefighters, what would we do if there was truly an emergency and we don’t have the firefighters?

Chuckles theRooster – I know am moving…just don’t know where – I can relate to that, as the past few months I’ve been in that kinda limbo myself…

Uniquely Tea – Tea Country – Susan Stockwell has made a map of United Kingdom in honor of the passion that the english have for tea…

Let’s say a Happy Birthday to Jonathan Pierson – today is his day! Happy Birthday Jonathan! :)

Young and Free SC – revealed the Finalist for the first Young and Free Last Band Standing

There are a few more that I would like to give a shout out to – Imabug – Interesting Times; Home Ec101 – guest writer - Dr Alice of Feet First;  Pink Wallflower – has a Wedding this weekend; and The Bradburns – made it Home safely!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend coming up.. and until then, you can find me at The Filipino Friends =)

09/16 (Insert Witty, but Brief Title Here)

An important anniversary will soon be here and the Post and Courier wants your photos from Hurricane Hugo.

Simply Cents wants to know if you have a disaster plan in place, as there will be another storm. Someday.

Local blogs joining forces? Well, it’s sort of like that. BeliefNetwork will be providing information technology to Rehava and both have a presence in our blogging community. (Hat tip to MyStyleeLife)

So, now that we’re talking networking, Patrick’s not really feeling Linked In.

Are you having trouble choosing your social medium?

Unrelated, the old school Nintendo theme in theses photos just tickles me. We played 8-bit and liked it, now get off my lawn.

Lock-ins are apparently not just for giggling youth groups, Eye Level Art is hosting another artist lock in.

I can’t ignore the foodies, tonight I stumbled on Asian pork burgers and Creazes; I never knew the world was so full of things to crave.

Heather Solos appears to be busy at Home Ec 101, but can be caught slacking at home.

09/15 Monday, Monday (A Day Late, But That’s Heather’s Fault)

I hope you all had a great weekend! I stole the title for today’s round up from that classic song from The Mamas And The Papas.

“Monday Monday, so good to me “  goes the lyric. A positive way to look at Monday for sure.

Anyway, enough looking back. I like Mondays myself, time to look forward to another week of challenges, and another week of lowcountry happenings!

Read Lee Walton’s take on recent events in his poem De Swimp Mon Chronicles. Perhaps you’ve heard more than enough about the Joe Wilson controversy, but if you want a little more to read, here’s Brad Franko’s observations on it.

Dave Moulton would like to share his thoughts about his future plans for the bike business, and a student at Wando High School is organizing a ride this Friday to show the need for a safe route to school. Check it out at Charleston Moves. Meanwhile there is a suit to stop improvements being made to Harbor View Road

An interesting and absorbing read about The Cooper River Underwater Heritage Trail can be found at Park West Palazzo today.

Working from home for the most part means I simply walk to the kitchen for coffee and lunch. Here’s a great lunch idea from Hugging The Coast.

Yesterday, Joan Perry posted this Church Photo in Lieu of Attendance

Tomorrow, you might care to check out an After Hours Networking Event at  Shine on Upper King.

Finally, going back to that Mamas And The Papas song, I hope that “Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be” was for you too.

You can find me all over the place online, but my main personal blog is ‘The Eye

09/14 The Title of This Post Is “Potpourri” in My Best Alex Trebek Voice

This, my inaugural round up, was nearly spoiled by the weather. It’s been such a gorgeous day that it seems everyone decided to go play outside instead of writing blog posts. Things were starting to get desperate. Fortunately, a few of you performed a noble act of generosity and donated your words to making me look good. And since a round up is judged on its quality and not is quantity, this might just be the best one the Low Country has seen yet. Personally, I’ll be happy to take the credit even though I didn’t do any of the work.

The XBox at the MUSC Children’s hospital is broken and has turned a place that no kid wants to be at into something a little bit worse. As The Bradburns tell us, Microsoft has is stepping up to the plate to give the hospital a gaming upgrade. But they could use your help (and your votes!).

On a much happier note, Joan has shared some fantastic photographs of some amazing wall-art in our area. I’ve seen some of these, but have so far missed out on a lot of them. I might have to seek them out as they’re really quite incredible.

As South Carolina has discovered lately, “all politics is local” isn’t just a cliché. We’ve found ourselves the talk of the national pundits a little too often recently and Eric thinks it might be time to provide a more national context to our politic follies.

Sabrina waxes romantic for a bit on music, love, and the Golden Hours of the weekend. If you’ve ever sat on your porch and watched the sun go down, you’ll understand. And if you haven’t (or just haven’t lately)? Today’s the perfect opportunity.

James is a loaf, a programmer, and a world-renowned wit. His daily complaints can be found at http://twitter.com/willia4.

09/11 Wow..That was a short workweek.

Again with the silly comments from the retired guy. (But a Labor Day  holiday means a Monday off….only if you ARE working.) Oh well. Vacation from a vacation.

I know several people who got Tuesday and Wednesday mixed up.

Here’s a guy who blogs daily so we know he’s on top of what’s happening and affecting our Lowcountry. Thanks for the updates on a wide variety of topics.

And pictures. No, I’m sorry…photographs … by a fellow who knows what he’s doing. He recently moved here and apparently likes what he sees and we are the winners. Sharp mind and sharp images.

Takes nerve to start talking about how-to-fry-chicken round these parts. But this lady walks the walk. I read it twice and did NOT see butter mentioned?? Many local cooks would find that a serious omission. Go check it out and remember, you can always send comments. And YOUR recipe.

Man, that is a sinister looking cat! I suppose they can’t all be cute and cuddly but this critter has an agenda. If he/she wants more kibble or another can of wet food…just do it!

Surfers..lobsters..and the Governor. What a combo when you go back a week or so. A lobster  may have to move fast to keep  itself “out of the claws” of a $2 machine. This signs says it accepts $20 bills and gives no change. Who is getting caught here? There’s even a suggestion here that maybe the surf was up in Argentina ?

New mothers fixing up a nursery know there’s a fine balance to caring for newborns and working while naps are happening. Helpful hands to hold the baby are always appreciated. Enjoy a view of armfuls of love. And, yes, the curtains are almost all the way up.

In “Knucklehead” the “K” is silent. Too bad this fellow wasn’t. As Craig Ferguson said on his late, late night show on CBS “Hey, this isn’t the Jerry Springer Show.”

This is the 8th anniversary of the WTC attack and there have been quiet, somber observances locally and around the country.

My small contribution of respect deals with a photo I don’t have and never will.

I’m Chuck Boyd and I’m pleased to provide this roundup. Take a closer look at the array of local talent that we have at our fingertips. And, have a nice safe weekend.

09/10 (Before 9/11) My Turn for the Round… :D

Hello bloggers, I hope everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day weekend; its such a short week, that I am sure many of you are liking it – as it happens it my turn again!  To begin, I would like to say a big CONGRATULATIONS to Matthew, Heidi (many of you know her as @carolinadreamz) son for making the Eagle Scout Court of Honor!  Heidi has been busy preparing a dinner in his honor and I know that all of you will come and show support for her and her family and especially for Matt for receiving this honor.   A date will be posted soon once we all know the details and we hope to see many of you bloggers there!  As she mentioned, if any of you would like to receive a special invitation, please DM Heidi @carolinadreamz :)

Here’s a story that I think some of you already heard – Another Proud Moment for SC from Patrick’s Place; and Franko’s take on the action of  Joe Wilson – my only comment would be that if he’s that passionate about the healthcare reform, why not work with everyone involved and stop shouting/yelling and sending out wrong messages to the people!

Dark Sky – Thursday Flurry of Words

For today’s sketch is the Marsh View, Mt Pleasant – from Lowcountry Sketchbook

For those of you that love Cinnamon rolls, our very own fave homemaker – made some today and they looks YUM!

Disney is buying Marvel?! – read on to Afrogeek Mom and Dad

So, as for me, I am again yours truly – The Filipino Friends :D

09/08 Addressing the Children

President Obama’s speech to school children has been the subject of many posts. As always opinions belong to the quoted bloggers.

Brad Franko:

For those of you charging that this is a Socialist agenda, keep in mind Presidents Reagan, and H.W. Bush also addressed America’s students.  They too were met with critics for doing so.

And, on the other side, releasing the transcript when the media first started asking for it, would have likely prevented a lot of the outrage.

Simple Cents:

In his talk the President says “You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.” Those in our state impacted by layoffs and the economic downturn can certainly understand the importance of this message.

Jamie Sanderson:

Here we go. The South Carolina GOPher patrol is at it again. And they want to use your taxpayer money to send them to the statehouse to work on, get this, legislation to “prevent further efforts by the President to influence school kids.”

JanetLee:

Personal responsibility, developing goals, not using circumstances as an excuse, hard work, respect for yourself and others, wow that’s some scary stuff there! Oh wait, no it isn’t. It’s what we’ve been telling our children for generations.

Patrick:

The parents who were so sure, absolutely convinced that there were unimaginable levels of improper politics that were going to be “sold” to unsuspecting children will never, of course, admit that their suspicions were the slightest bit unreasonable. They’ll only sit back with a big smile on their face, confident that the stink they raised was the only thing that prompted Obama to post the text of the speech to begin with. (Despite the fact that it’s practically routine that a president releases the complete text of a major address before he sits down to deliver it…it is the Information Age, after all.)

09/04 New to the Blogroll

Just added two new bloggers to the Big Blogroll.

The first one is Starting Over, by Angel.  I absolutely love the tagline:

When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at will change.

The next one is called Myrtle Beach Organics:

This blog is an effort by Linda Murdock to relate to the internet world the value and benefits of using organic products.  She does sell such products at her storefront, www.GrandStrandOrganics.com.  But she is also a dedicated environmentalist who has championed conservation causes for the past 40 years.
Go check out our new bloggers, and welcome them to the party!
